Tribute to Heather McElroy

Heather is the second from the left

We were saddened today to hear that Heather has passed away after a very short illness.

Heather had been a strong advocate for older people in Waitaki and a staunch supporter of Age Concern Otago/Waitaki.

For over 25 + years, Heather had been involved with Age Concern Otago. She started as a volunteer visitor for our accredited Visiting Service. Before too long, she became the Volunteer Coordinator of the Visiting Service and devoted many hours to supporting our volunteers and the lonely older people of Waitaki.

Heather then became a member of the Age Concern Waitaki Board and eventually became Chairperson. Her dedication and caring continued on after she finished this role.

At the Age Concern Otago AGM last year Heather was made a Life Member of Age Concern Otago in recognition of her many years of service – a recognition well deserved.

Heather will be greatly missed by many people. Our condolences and thoughts go to her family, a mother and grandmother to be proud of.
