Bequests
“Making a Will is not a negative thing -It is profound and joyful.
It is a love letter to life- Your life!””
Will I or Won’t I?
Making a Will is one of the most important things we can do.
It’s also a powerful way to support the causes we care about and help shape a better future.
A gift of just 1% of your estate can make a significant difference to organisations like Age Concern Otago.
In today’s complex and fast-changing world, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by all that is going on. However, acts of kindness—no matter how small—create powerful, lasting change.
For example, because of your generosity:
Someone will be fed, and their health will improve.
A person lost in loneliness will find a friend and a renewed sense of purpose each day.
An older adult will join exercise classes, avoid falls, and enjoy a longer, healthier life.
Someone will learn to use their phone or navigate the internet safely, reconnecting with the world—and discovering new interests along the way.
A person facing declining health will receive help to get their affairs in order, finding comfort in knowing their loved ones won’t be burdened.
Someone will recognise the signs of abuse, allowing a vulnerable person to be lifted out of fear and harm.
Someone will join a group, learn a skill, make new friends-and laugh until their sides ache.
Someone will rediscover a sense of purpose, feeling the joy and energy that comes with belonging and contribution.
And because of you, Age Concern Otago will still be here, continuing our work and serving our community
Did you know that Age Concern Otago receives only a small amount of government funding?
We rely on the kindness of our community to continue supporting our elders.
The Age Concern Otago Legacy & Bequest Programme: A Living Tribute
Our bequest programme is unique—its focus is on creating a living, legacy of love. When someone leaves a gift in their Will, or lets us know they intend to, we honour their generosity by planting a native tree in Glenfalloch Gardens, Dunedin.
Each tree is uniquely identified and placed in a dedicated area, becoming a beautiful and meaningful tribute. Imagine a forest of memories—each tree representing a life well‑lived and a commitment to future generations.
““It’s a wonderful feeling to know we can create change for the causes we care about—even after we’re gone.
It’s a powerful way to help others well into the future.””
Join Us and help to Create a Better Future
Anyone can leave a gift in their Will, and every gift—large or small—creates a lasting impact for years to come. This is a heartfelt way to be part of the essential services provided by Age Concern Otago and to support the wellbeing of future generations.
You can also give in memory of a loved one. A memorial donation is a special way of honouring someone’s life while extending support to others. Many families choose Age Concern Otago as the recipient of donations instead of flowers, finding comfort in creating ongoing good in their loved one’s name.
